Course Information

This course is an introduction to the business of sports collectibles – trading cards, licensed products and memorabilia. Students will examine material on the history or trading cards; the key manufacturers, brands and major players in the industry; demographic differences between markets; licensing, intellectual property and royalties; professional grading; basics on how to grade; the role of eCommerce in the industry; the role of auction houses and historical sales; a source of alternative investing; 2020 and COVID-19’s impact on the industry; fractional investing; cultural impact; the future of sports collectibles – blockchain, digital cards and NFTs; and finally, how to get in the industry.
