This site includes instructions for you to download and install the FirstClass Client software on to your computer.  Once installed you can login to the FirstClass System to access your course.

  

The FirstClass Client software is NOT compatible with Windows ME operating systems.   Windows ME users can use the FirstClass Web Login.  Please review the "About the FirstClass Web Login" section.

 

Review the Setup Summary and then download, install, and login to the Embanet FirstClass System.   


Summary of "Embanet FirstClass Client" Setup:

A typical installation of the Embanet FirstClass Client software involves four steps.

  1. Connect to the Internet  

  2. Download the Embanet FirstClass Client software file

  3. Install the Embanet First Class Client software on your computer

  4. Login to the Embanet FirstClass Conferencing System

Downloading and Installing the Embanet FirstClass Client Software file:

Select the appropriate Embanet FirstClass Client software file according to YOUR computer system configuration. It may take 5 minutes to 20 minutes to download the file.

If you are prompted to RUN or OPEN the file, it means that when the file is finished downloading it will automatically begin the installation process.  If you are asked to SAVE the file to disk, please select a location on your hard drive (the file will not fit on a floppy disk) that will be easy to access after download.  When the file is finished downloading, find the saved file on your hard drive and double-click on the file to start the installation process.

  • To initiate the installation process, double-click on the file that you downloaded.

  • During the installation process, choose Next to proceed through the installation.

  • Click on YES for the License Agreement.

  • The installation process will prompt you to create a Desktop and a Quick Launch icon, please select the icons you wish to add for your convenience.

  • The installation will create a new directory on your computer called "Embanet" and ask to install the program. Please select "Install" to install the software.  

  • At this point the software will be installed on your computer.

In case you cannot find the file that you downloaded, Windows 98/NT/ME/2000/2003/XP users should select “Start” and select “Find Files or Folders”.  In the filename box, type in OL8.3.EXE. 

Disk space required by the Embanet FirstClass Client software is less than 10 megabytes. 

 

 


Login Procedures:

  1. To login to the Embanet FirstClass system you must be connected to the Internet.  Please note: You are not required to access your course through the OntarioLearn.com ePortal site each time but please be sure to login to the OntarioLearn ePortal regularly to check for announcements from your college.   Follow the steps below to access the OntarioLearn.com FirstClass login screen.

Steps to login to the Embanet FirstClass System  

Windows 98/NT/2000/ 2003/XP/Vista 

If you are logged into the OntarioLearn ePortal, click on your course title to launch the FirstClass login screen. 

OR 

From the START menu select PROGRAMS, select Embanet, and then Embanet once more 

OR 

Double click on the Embanet desktop icon to launch the login screen.

Macintosh

If you are logged into the OntarioLearn ePortal, click on your course title to launch the FirstClass login screen. 

OR 

Find the Embanet folder and double click on it. Double click on the Embanet.fc file.

  1. Type in your UserID and Password in the spaces provided on the OntarioLearn.com FirstClass login screen.  Below is an image of the OntarioLearn.com FirstClass Login Screen.  Use lowercase letters  

If you are denied access, it is possible that your Embanet FirstClass account has not been activated.  Embanet FirstClass account activations are processed as of the course start date. If you have recently registered for your course please allow a couple of days for your registration to be processed and your account to be activated.  If the problem continues for several days, contact your Registering College or Embanet Technical Support.

If you have typed in an incorrect UserID or Password, you may receive an "Auto Register" message.  Exit and commence login procedures again.  This would have created a second student account. 


Welcome to the Embanet FirstClass conferencing System:

 

When you have successfully logged into the Embanet FirstClass system, you will see a desktop image similar to the picture below. 

After you have made your initial connection to the FirstClass system, please change your password.  To change your password click on "Collaborate" + "Change Password" and enter your new password.  You can use your new password to access the FirstClass system after you have completed this step.   

Your course icon should appear on the FirstClass Desktop.  If your course icon is missing from the desktop, please contact Embanet Technical Support immediately.

 

 


About the FirstClass Web Login:

It is possible to access the Embanet FirstClass System through your Web Browser.  A link to the FirstClass web login is on your ePortal desktop for your convenience. Although the navigation and look is very different than the FirstClass Client version, you are still able to access your course material, check your mail, and download files.

Windows ME users must use the FirstClass Web Login to access their courses as their operating system is not compatible with the FirstClass Client software.
Users who are traveling or want to access their FirstClass account from another computer may find the web login helpful as well. 
Users who encounter problems downloading the Embanet FirstClass software can use the FirstClass web login to temporarily access their course while they get assistance from Embanet Technical Support to resolve the download problem.

Please download and install the "FirstClass Client software" when possible.  The Chat feature is not always available to users through the FirstClass Web Login. Please advise your instructor if you are affected by this limitation.


 Trouble Shooting Tips

  • If you get a message saying LOCATING SERVER ON NETWORK you may be behind a firewall.  Please visit the following web site at http://www.embanet.com/support/FC_index.htm for more information.

  • If you are on Windows 98 and get an error saying that the Communication Link Has Failed or No Network Socket, this means your computer is not properly configured with Windows 98 drivers. Please refer to the following web site at  http://www.embanet.com/support/FC_index.htm

  • If you are denied access, it is possible that your Embanet FirstClass account has not been activated.  Embanet FirstClass account activations are processed as of the course start date. It generally takes a few days after a student has registered to activate their Embanet FirstClass account.  If the problem continues for several days, contact your Registering College or Embanet Technical Support.  

  • It is possible to access the Embanet FirstClass system through your Web Browser.  If you are encountering problems downloading the Embanet FirstClass software, please go to http://fcweb.embanet.com/login/  and enter your UserID and Password.
